1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This top-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing some more volume and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very beneficial.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
